Bio for Reverend David Allen Jones

For the past twenty years Reverend David Allen Jones has been ministering to people from all walks of life.  David graduated from Holmes Institute in Los Angeles, California and served as the National Youth Minister for the “United Centres for Spiritual Living”.

He then served as senior minister in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  During David’s ministry, the church grew from 85 people to over three hundred on a Sunday.  Reverend David earned his ordination in 1992, a culmination of over eight years of education and service in the ministry.

David left the Oklahoma City Church in 1995 and founded the non-profit organization “Free the Heart.”  An organization dedicated to changing people’s lives through the power of love.

Through a passionate nationwide outreach of more than 219 workshops, David’s program has touched, changed, and impacted over twenty five thousand people.  Rev. David has also spoken in front of more than seventy five thousand people across North America.

People from all walks of life, all ethnic backgrounds, varying degrees of education, and ranging in age from 9 to 91 have felt the profound, life changing effect that his workshops have on people.

His work has included outreach to over 3,500 inmates in State prisons located in Oklahoma, Nevada, and California; “Free the Heart” has been noted as the most unique program in the United States prison system.

His work has been written about in “Chicken Soup for the Soul.”  He has been interviewed countless times on the radio, T.V. and newspapers, including three times by The Times Colonist here in Victoria.

However, during the last thirteen years of ministering through “Free the Heart,” Reverend David has always missed the experience of being a part of a loving, spiritual community.  So when a friend, during a gathering on December 31st, 2007, planted the seed in his mind of creating a spiritual centre/church here in Victoria, the idea took hold and gestated in Rev. David’s mind for seven months.

Then David assembled a group of loving and willing people who gathered together weekly for fourteen weeks to vision and pray for a spiritual community.  And out of the collective consciousness of this group of thirteen people the vision for the “Centre for Inspired Living” emerged.

David is passionate about this brand new community and the opportunity to minister here on the Island. Rev. David feels as if he has come home to his roots, for his Dad was born here in Victoria, his Grandmother grew up in the Duncan area and he still has a second cousin living in Port Alberni.

David was born in 1960 to a mother who was dedicated to a spiritual belief system not widely known or accepted at that time, she was determined to raise her son in a spiritually uplifting environment which included the teachings of Buddhism and Hinduism; both of which were to have a large impact on his life.

David’s parents were founding members in 1956 of a New Thought Church in Ventura, California. This new church, “The Centre for Spiritual Living” would provide a spiritual and religious background, and serve as his home church from 1960-1988.

During his most formative years, David was exposed, immersed, and educated through countless lectures, seminars, and retreats to the divine teachings of luminaries such as; Indri Devi (influential Yogi author and teacher), Allan Watts (first American to introduce and popularize Buddhism in the western world), and Manly Hall (considered by many to be one of the greatest philosophers of the 21st Century).

David thrived in this ‘new thought’ environment and with each opportunity he found new knowledge and growth in areas such as; philosophy, psychology, sociology, spirituality, meditation, ayurvedic medicine, acupuncture, and even yoga.

He brings a lifetime of knowledge, a deep spiritual understanding, and a passion for teaching, that makes every Sunday at the Centre for Inspired Living, a powerful, uplifting and spiritually stimulating experience.

David enjoys spending time with his loving family, Crystal, Tahnee, Liberty, and their cat Teela.  His favourite pastimes are going to movies, camping, golfing, and long walks.
